Ran is a high school senior in search of a part time job when she catches wind of a lifeguarding position at a nearby pool. As a swimmer, she eagerly applies and breezes into the position. She is the middle child of three daughters, with an older sister in her twenties and a younger sister in elementary school; suffice it to say that there is a decent age gap between her family members, and she sometimes struggles to relate to them as a result.

A generally sociable and friendly person, she is the type to charge headlong into a problem instead of think it through, and this results in an extreme distaste for complex puzzles, people, and situations. Her friends would probably call her reckless, but she doesn't particularly have an affinity for thrills; she just prefers to do, instead of think.

The shyer of the two, Meri is a college student majoring in English. She loves to read, particularly period pieces! She spends a lot of her time thumbing through books, which suits her just fine, as she works part time as a babysitter/nanny.

She is quiet, but when she speaks, it's usually something important (at least to her). A woman of relatively few words, her friends tend to be more talkative types.

Being the only child in her family, her parents dote on her a bit and as a result, she can be a little helpless at times. But, luckily for her, that works out alright for the most part since Ran is there :^)

Their relationship could be described as almost sickenly sweet and fluffy. They're both a little new to this, but between Ran's cheer and enthusiasm and Meri's quiet affections, they manage to make it work.

Ran tends to be the aggressive one/initatior, but Meri fip flops it sometimes, surprising both of them. Over time, as Meri gains more confidence, that happens more and more often.

Their story is finished and published in Lilies volume 1: Water Lily, under the title "Lifeguard". Although it's a little corny, please bear with me!
