Emma is a light-hearted girl who doesn't like to think too hard about most things. Notably irresponsible, she tends to spend her days equally divided between lazing around and half-working, half-procrastinating. Despite growing up in years, she still struggles with the increasing responsibilities placed on her. She sometimes can be doting to a fault.

Her parents had eloped in their teenager years, and kept Emma on a loose leash. As a result, she was able to explore her burgeoning awareness of her sexuality in high school, when she fell for her social studies teacher. Although she was rejected by her, with those bittersweet memories fresh in her mind, Emma channeled those feelings into her school and began pursuing an education degree in her footsteps.

Contrasting strongly with Emma, Vera is her more serious conterpart. Although quiet and seemingly stoic, she has a flustered and open side to her as well (which Emma loves, and has caused her to be the result of much playful teasing). She often comes off as a bit older than her age, which she doesn't seem to mind.

Forced to grow up too soon by a broken family (with a younger sister and single dad), she's almost harshly realistic, which can be problematic in some ways. Because Emma is her first partner, as well as Vera's questioning sexuality, she often ends up treating their relationship a tad more earnestly than she may need to. Despite her usually cool demeanor, she does care, even if she doesn't know how to say it. Due to this gap, she sometimes over- or underdoes it, though she does her best to grow.

The two met at Vera's high school where Emma was working as a UTA (undergraduate teaching assistant). Their relationship could be described as soft and slow. Emma is the older one and is a tutor to Vera, who, despite her age, plays the role of the adult in the relationship all too often.

Emma is good at a select few things - lazing around being one of them - and so depends on Vera to take care of more of the practical life skills. In this way, they've sort of settled into a comfortable dynamic, and although Emma typically is the one getting spoiled by Vera, she is quite in tune with the people around her and balances out Vera's tendency to try to push away her own needs.

They typically are either studying together (most notably the humanities, as Vera struggles with paying attention in these subjects) or flirting wantonly. While Vera appears to worry more than Emma about the consequences of their relationship getting out - whatwith Emma wanting to become an instructor and all - and while Emma playfully laughs it off, of the two, Emma is more aware of it and takes precautions that Vera is unaware of. In at least this area, she takes up the role of the adult (though she lets Vera believe that she gives it no passing thought).

When it comes to dates, Vera is hopeless and will spend the entire night beforehand preparing, reading up on the locations, brushing her hair, and just overall fretting. Emma's a bit more experienced there, but not by much, and the two often end up going out and having fun without much regard for romanticism. (Vera is especially fond of places like the aquarium or zoo, while Emma is happy enough with movies and a shopping date). Both are content with a night in together, too!
